2018 professional development programs open for registration

The University of Indianapolis Division for Professional Engagement has announced the 2018 schedule of professional development programming, which includes eight new programs.

BASIC FACILITATION SKILLS
Next Session:  February 5, 2018; 1:00-5:00pm
This interactive module is designed for individuals who want to develop and/or improve their basic facilitation skills. This module will address fundamental facilitation tools and processes that can be applied to any type of facilitated session, whether it is a staff meeting, planning session, problem-solving meeting, a brainstorming session, or any type of meeting that you want to be meaningful and productive.

TRANSLATION THEORY: SPANISH/ENGLISH
Next Session Begins:  February 5, 2018; 12:00-2:00pm
The need for competent translators in today’s global society is increasing at a fast pace, and the demand for translated material is growing rapidly. Building upon your fluency in English and Spanish, this course is delivered in five modules and teaches students the techniques and procedures needed to produce accurate translations of a wide variety of documents used in international organizations, literature, business, marketing, and medical fields. Students will gain knowledge about relevant cultural issues and will become familiar with the translation profession as well as the skills, tools and resources available for effective translations.

DEVELOPING SOFT SKILLS

The number one need expressed by employers across all industries and sectors is for employees that can enhance the workplace with the necessary soft skills to be productive, conscientious workers. This workshop begins the journey of understanding those soft skills and why they are critical for success. Designed to be informative, engaging, and demonstrating practical application, the workshop will cover topics including: Understanding of soft skills, Elevator pitch, Problem-solving strategies, Communication,Conflict resolution, Time management, Work ethic, Planning, and Execution.

DEVELOPING TRANSPORTABLE SKILLS

You got the job and you have the subject matter skills to succeed in your career. Succeeding in your career may mean promotions and added responsibility. The question is how to stand out and be noticed. This workshop will focus on those soft skills you need to master to be that person that is noticed and known as a reliable and trusted employee on the fast track to promotion. Designed to be informative, engaging, and demonstrating practical application, the workshop will cover topics including: Identifying transportable skills, Self-awareness, Work ethic, Communication (Verbal, Nonverbal, Written), Flexibility/adaptability, Goal setting, Quality, Working under pressure, Planning/Organizing, Professional assertiveness, and Self-awareness.

COACHING FOR PERFORMANCE
Next Session:  February 19,  2018; 1:00-5:00PM
Coaching is a process that enables individuals to improve their skills and capabilities, provide reinforcement and feedback and resolve performance problems. This module is designed to assist participants in acquiring the basic knowledge and developing a level of competence and confidence to conduct individual and team performance appraisals, and to conduct one-on-one and group level coaching sessions. This session also covers the concept of Cognitive Coaching which requires the coach to be non-judgmental, to encourage reflective practice, and to guide another person to self-directed learning.
