I write today to announce that Sean Huddleston, who has served as Vice President of Inclusion and Equity since 2017, was today named the next president of Martin University.
During his time at UIndy, Sean’s leadership, insight, and creativity significantly advanced a networked model of inclusive excellence that has impacted nearly every area of our university community. His leadership guided our institution in convening community-wide conversations and actions to enhance UIndy’s vision for inclusive excellence. Sean has led collaborative initiatives to also further community engagement – launching the Inclusion and Equity Council and the Paul Washington-Lacey Emerging Leader Program and was instrumental in UIndy hosting the inaugural national Chief Diversity Officers Symposium. Sean was also involved in the development of the recent Indianapolis Police Department’s Diversity Think Tank.
Sean’s leadership inspired programming that further developed the intercultural fluency for all of our students. In addition, he created organizational opportunities like the “open mic” nights and the Inclusion and Equity Student Ambassadors which will support our work in this area for years to come.
Sean will be with us through the end of February and will take office at Martin University in March. We will soon begin to think about a search process to find Sean’s replacement. In the coming weeks, we will offer some opportunities to gather as a community so we can identify and discuss our best path forward. I look forward to receiving your feedback and hearing your thoughts on how this role can best support our work at the University.
Please join me in thanking Sean for his service to UIndy and congratulating him on his new role!
